New criteria for "obesity disease" in Japan.
This study established adequate criteria to determine "obesity disease" in Japan. It was found from sensitivity/specificity analyses that a body mass index of 25 kg/m2 allowed the best discrimination of subjects with multiple risk factors was a body mass index. Moreover, a visceral fat area of 100 cm2 also identified subjects with a cluster of metabolic abnormalities. This value corresponded to an approximate waist circumference of 85 cm in men and 90 cm in women.
