Should C-reactive protein be added to metabolic syndrome and to assessment of global cardiovascular risk?
This paper reviews the evidence that C-reactive protein (CRP) is the most promising novel risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Indeed, evidence from the literature supports the notion that CRP independently predicts events, adds information over the Framingham risk score and at any level of the Metabolic Syndrome and also predicts type 2 diabetes.
