In this prospective study of 596 consecutive patients with total occlusion of the right coronary artery as determined by angiography, patients were classified as having good or poor coronary collaterals (CCs) according to Rentrop’s grades. Regression analysis revealed that the presence of the metabolic syndrome was an independent predictor of poor CCs along with duration of angina pectoris, presence of diabetes mellitus and wall score.
