SIR GEORGE ALBERTI

Professor Sir George Alberti is Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College, London, National Director for Emergency Access at the UK Department of Health and Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle. He was also President of the Royal College of Physicians of London from 1997 to 2002. He has had a lifelong interest in diabetes and has been on the WHO Advisory Panel since 1979. He has also served as President of the EASD, editor-in-chief of Diabetologia and President of the International Diabetes Federation as well as Vice-President of Diabetes UK. He has worked extensively with colleagues in sub-Saharan Africa and has a particular interest in the metabolic syndrome and prevention and care of type 2 diabetes in the developing world.
